SIBU: Kelab Sape Dayak Sibu (KSDS) is organising the Traditional Sape Camp 2023 on December 2, offering an immersive experience in traditional sape music.

The camp, held at KSDS Centre, Level 1, No.6E, Jalan Kampung Datu, adjacent to the SUPP Sibu headquarters, welcomes all interested in this unique musical instrument.

“The camp, from 9 am to 4 pm, isn’t just about the sape. We’re creating a vibrant mix of traditional games and arts for a fun, educational atmosphere,” said KSDS chairman Anthony Abong in a statement yesterday (Nov 25).

The event features sape performances, ngajat dance, a basic introduction to sape-making, and kuntau, a self-defense art.

“Our goal is to ignite a passion for these arts, inviting people to learn about sape and ngajat dance.

“We’re delighted to have sape player Jimpau Balan lead the camp,” added Abong.

The RM30 participation fee includes meals (breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea) and a certificate. The camp will be officially opened by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng at 10 am.
