KUCHING: Physical public events or programmes that have been scheduled to take place, including those involving the chief minister, have been ordered postponed for two weeks and the order took effect today.

This was the directive issued by State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion in a letter to all state civil servants in line with the instruction by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on Thursday.

In the letter, it also said that no physical meetings are allowed for the next two weeks, but meetings through applications such as Zoom are permissible.

It also stated that crossing district borders is prohibited except for urgent needs, and even then approval must be obtained from the heads of the departments concerned.

Last Thursday, SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the committee had decided that starting tomorrow no physical meetings are allowed for the next two weeks.

He said instead all meetings are to be conducted via Zoom.

At another event, civil servants were also in the sights of Energy and Natural Resources Deputy Minister Datuk Ali Biju who told them to help register those who want to get vaccinated.

“It can be done using the MySejahtera application, and filling forms at district health offices and the nearest clinics. They can also get help from their community leaders,” he said in a Malaysia Prihatin programme with civil servants here last Friday.

He noted that the federal government had introduced measures to bring down the number of cases. These include the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) on March 18, 2020, economic stimulus packages, the vaccine rollout and the Emergency Proclamation.

“The government has also introduced initiatives such as Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat, National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana), Strategic Program to Empower the People and the Economy (Pemerkasa) to help all those affected by the MCO,” he said.

At the state level, the government had also introduced the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) package in five phases.

The Malaysia Prihatin programme was coordinated by the Information Department with ministers and deputy ministers acting as implementers.

It is aimed at explaining the initiatives and measures taken by the government in tackling the pandemic.
