KUCHING: Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has assured Lundu residents that all major projects slated for implementation in his constituency would resume soon.

Wan Junaidi who is also Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister said the projects were delayed due to the unprecedented movement control order (MCO) enforced on March 18 to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The suspension of construction works during the last three months was unprecedented and could not be prevented because of the pandemic.

“I hope all Lundu residents will understand and be patient with the delays, but I can assure you that these projects will be back to its feet as soon as possible,” he said when asked to comment on public complaints regarding the suspension of construction works during his visit to the RM98 million Sungai Rambungan project site in Lundu on Sunday.

“All activities for construction work can only restart during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) and must strictly comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“The delay in the Sungai Rambungan project was also because we had to wait for the engineers and technicians who are from China,” he added.

The Rambungan project is one of the nine bridge projects across major rivers that would provide the missing links of the existing Sarawak Coastal Road network, spanning 896km from the south to the northern region.

The 560m long Rambungan bridge is a two-lane single carriageway cable-stayed bridge comprising of 320 metres of cable-stayed span, 80 metres of approach span on the Kuching side and 160 metres from Lundu side.   Motorists currently rely on ferry services to cross these rivers and the ferry at Rambungan currently serves an average of 2,800 vehicles a day.
