KUCHING: It has been decided that all schools in the district will be closed effective May 3 until further notice in view that Bau district is now a Covid-19 red zone.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep revealed this after he was informed by Bau district education officer Charlie Unggang on the temporary school closure.

“All schools in Bau district will be closed starting May 3 until a later date which will be announced by the State Education Department following the announcement that the district has been classified as a Covid-19 red zone,” Henry said in a Facebook post last Sunday (May 2).

In the post, he also shared a message he received from Charlie who said, “YB Datuk and all … after a long deliberation with the director of education, the decision now is that all schools in Bau will be closed as of tomorrow (May 3)”.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on May 2 stated that Bau district had changed from an orange zone to a red zone after 45 local transmission cases were reported in the last 14 days.
