All state reps test negative for virus

KUCHING: Members of the State Legislature have all tested negative for Covid-19.

State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, who revealed this at a press conference after attending the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Pre-Council Meeting chaired by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here on Sunday (Nov 8).

“So far, (everyone tested) negative. No one (has tested) positive (for Covid-19),” he said.

Asfia told all 82 state representatives underwent the Covid-19 swab test at the DUN Complex here on Friday and Saturday.

The elected leaders waited in their cars while waiting their turn at the drive-through screening held from 9am to 4pm.

The swab test is a requirement for all members of the legislature and State Cabinet prior to the DUN Sitting which will take place beginning Monday (Nov 9).

Respective members of the August House were seen going through a drive-thru Covid-19 testing facility assisted by the health officers from Normah Medical Specialist Centre.

Members who fail to present a Covid-19 swab test result to DUN Sarawak before or on the first day of the sitting will be prohibited from attending the sitting.
