KUCHING: All traders at the three markets under Kuching City South Council (MBKS) have taken their Covid-19 tests since last Wednesday.

The three markets involved are Sungai Apong Market, Petanak Market and Kenyalang Market.

This was said by MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng in reply to a query during a live session conducted on his Facebook page on Saturday.

“Just to make sure that all markets are safe, the Sarawak Health Department together with MBKS have done the tests for Sungai Apong Market, Petanak Market, and Kenyalang Market.

“If the department calls you, you will need to do more tests,” he said, adding that he hoped the test results will come back negative.

When contacted on Sunday, Wee said for Sungai Apong Market, 58 traders have been screened, 187 for Petanak Market, and 150 for Kenyalang Market.

“The screening and testing are part of the precautionary measures. We, as a council, must make sure that all of our markets are safe for the vendors including the customers,” he said.

He said the health department went to the respective markets last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to conduct the tests.

“We would like to thank the health department, Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and all the traders in giving their full cooperation during the screening session,” he said.
