KUCHING: Certain sports and recreational activities in the state will be allowed to resume beginning June 17 and subject to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set.
According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement on Friday, these categories of activities are among those allowed during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) period starting next Wednesday.
“The Sarawak Ministry of Youth and Sports will contact the relevant sports bodies that are allowed to operate to inform them on the SOPs in greater detail,” said SDMC in the statement.
When contacted Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the sports and recreational activities are those that are allowed to resume as announced by the federal government.
Among these sports and recreational activities include non-contact sports such as bowling, badminton, archery, shooting while outdoor activities such as cycling and motorcycle convoys are also among those allowed.
Contact sports that involve physical contact such as swimming, rugby, football, hockey and others are still prohibited.
