KUCHING: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has called on fellow MPs who won under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) ticket in the last election to unite under the umbrella of PH.

The move is to ensure that the mandate given by the people during the election could be implemented as best as possible, said its president Mohamad Sabu.

“What has happened before let it pass and let’s create history to rebuild this beloved country,” he said in his Facebook account following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin as prime minister yesterday (Aug 16).

“The prime minister has resigned and more than 1.3 million people are infected with Covid-19, with over 12,000 deaths recorded. This number is also increasing day by day with some states seen recording high cases again.

“Therefore, it is a priority for all of us at this time to work together to restore the health and economy of the country,” he added.

Mohamad Sabu said democracy needed to be restored so that the views of all parties were taken into account, whether among MPs from the government or the opposition as well as other parties.

“The process of check and balance through parliamentary institutions must be activated so that the newly formed government always performs its responsibilities to the best of its ability,” he added.

He said in the face of such a bitter situation, a great soul was needed because there was nothing that the people could really hope for unless the health and economy of the people recover.

When the people’s mandate in the last election was restored and the parliamentary institution was revived, no one was left behind because the role and views of the opposition would also be taken into account in managing Malaysia to get out of the health crisis and rebuild the country’s economy, he added.
