KUCHING: The proposed amendments to the Federal Constitution will reflect the true meaning of a united federation consisting of the three regions of Sabah, Sarawak and Malaya.

Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin said the amendments would help restore and reinforce the special status of Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners in the federation

“This is a long-awaited change in our political framework and will surely benefit the people of Sabah and Sarawak,” he said while applauding the proposed comprehensive amendment of the Federal Constitution to restore Sabah’s and Sarawak’s special status under MA63.

“I would like to also applaud the commitment of our Chief Minister on the proposed constitutional amendments covering several provisions such as Article 1(2), Article 160(2), and the introduction of 16 September 1963 as Malaysia Day and the definition of ‘native’ under Article 161A.”

Willie hoped the transformation would take immediate effect once the overall Bill per above is debated in the upcoming Parliament session at the end of this month, along with the National Budget 2022.

“To all my fellow elected MP colleagues, let us together give full support to this Bill to be approved in the august House and create an unprecedented history for us Malaysians,” he urged.
