KUCHING: Due to recent confirmed cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19), the Anglican Church of Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam has decided to temporarily suspend its weekly masses.

Bishop of Kuching (Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam) Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute, in a statement on Facebook, said this would take effect from March 15 until April 1.

“To all clergy and fellow Anglicans, in light of the increasing number of cases of Covid-19 infections in Sarawak and Brunei, and having taken into consideration the latest advisory from Ministry of Health, along with professional views expressed and conveyed to us, we have decided to temporarily suspend our Sunday and weekday church services effective this Sunday, March 15 to April 1, 2020,” he said.

Danald said the step taken was just a temporary measure and further advisory would follow.

“Some churches will still be open for live streaming, and they are encouraged to do so however with a small number of people present,” he said.

He said for the Sunday church service in Iban, the live streaming was available at St Francis’s Parish Church Kota Samarahan from 8am today.

“There is no need to panic. On the contrary, let us each draw ever nearer to God in fervent prayers, for His healing power,” said Danald.
