KUCHING: The Anglican churches in the city here will continue to hold its public masses — albeit with limited number of people and strict standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei, Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute said the congregation would also have to observe stricter personal health awareness.

“For the moment, we will continue to hold our in-person services, but with greater emphasis on adherence to SOP,” he said.

He added parishioners could still go online to attend the live-streamed masses if they were unable to attend the church service.

“However, services in Sibu churches have been suspended following the sudden spike in positive cases two days ago,” he said.

On Jan 9, Catholic Bishop of Sibu, Right Reverend Joseph Hii suspended all church activities at Sacred Heart Cathedral and all outstation parishes until Jan 12.

This precautionary measure was taken in view of the sudden increase in Covid-19 positive cases reported in Sibu on Jan 9, involving 37 persons from the Pasai cluster.
