KUCHING: Anjung Pembangunan Usahawan in Gedong will be a new landmark in the area, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
When completed, the building, which is being planned, will house a training centre, an administration office, workshops, a processing area and an open terrace.
“It can be utilised for various public events such as small and medium enterprises’ (SMEs) functions, hostels. It will have ample parking spaces, toilets and a praying area.
“It is located on the 3.8 acres of land adjacent to Pusat Kesihatan Gedong, and both the proposed Galeri Gedong and Gedong Resthouse.
“The tender will be called soon and construction is expected to commence by the end of the year,” he said in a statement made available on Sunday (Aug 9).
Awang Tengah said the project was started with the future of Gedong community in mind.
“It will focus mainly on enhancing the capacity and capability of the local entrepreneurs such as in food processing, craft making, weaving and product development; training the people on technopreneurship skills; and stimulate the economics activities of the surrounding areas,” he said.
The deputy chief minister said Anjung Pembangunan Usahawan in Gedong would be one of the many Anjung Usahawans established by International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal dan Entrepreneur Development Ministry (Mintred).
“Its objective is to accelerate socio-economic transformation as well as support the growth of local SMEs throughout Sarawak.
“It will also improve the living standard of the community by providing a comfortable venue for trading, training and processing of local products. It will be equipped with e-commerce facilities for the local entrepreneurs,” he explained.
