Another crash in Selangau claims two lives

SELANGAU: Two elderly women tragically lost their lives in a fatal collision along KM49, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu on Tuesday (June 6) while another woman sustained serious injuries.

The victims have been identified as Kinun Anyum, 74, and Lidin Meru, 60, who were seated in the front and back of the Proton Saga car involved in the accident.

According to Dalat OCPD DSP Saga Chunggat, the collision occurred at around 6.55am and involved a Proton Saga and a tanker. The Proton Saga was driven by a 51-year-old woman who was injured, and the tanker was driven by a 45-year-old man.

“The collision took place when the Proton Saga, attempting to turn into a junction, was rear-ended by the tanker,” explained DSP Saga.

The back seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The front seat passenger was initially receiving treatment at the Selangau health clinic but was later pronounced dead.

The tanker driver escaped the crash without sustaining any injuries.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
