Another positive case reported in Bintulu

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one new positive Covid-19 case in Bintulu on Friday, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 566.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement on Friday said, the new case was detected as a result of contact tracing and screening of close contacts to case number 558.

The 67-year-old man who is a local had showed no signs and symptoms of the disease, the secretariat said.

Case number 558, together with other two cases which involved a family was reported positive on June 16 in Bintulu district. These cases were detected after tracing and screening of close contacts to case 557, which involved a university student from Mukah who was tested positive on June 14.

Meanwhile, Simunjan district has its zone status changed from yellow to green after no new positive cases were reported in the last fourteen days. This brings the total number of green zones to 37 to date.

Kuching, Bintulu and Samarahan districts still remained as yellow zone.

SDMC also reported one new recovery case which has been discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). Thus far, 535 individuals or 94.52 percent of the total cases have recovered.

To date, 14 Covid-19 patients are still receiving treatment at the hospitals. Of these cases, eight are in SGH and six in Bintulu Hospital. 

The secretariat also reported 38 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases, with three still awaiting laboratory results.

On the number of person-under-surveillance (PUS), there are 44 cases registered in hotels for quarantine, bringing the total to 607 being placed at 13 hotels throughout the state to date.

A total of 16,297 PUS had completed the mandatory quarantine and were allowed to return home as of Friday.
