Anti-gambling raids net two enablers

BAU: A woman was among two individuals arrested by police for alleged involvement in illegal online gambling at two separate locations last Saturday (Aug 1).

Its district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the duo aged 28 and 34 were picked up during ‘Ops Dadu’ at an eatery and a sundry shop.

The first raid took place at the sundry shop at Jalan Bau-Batu Kawa at around 6.40pm, which resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old male employee.

Poge said a 28-year-old woman was detained in the second raid at an eatery at Jalan Seringgok around 7.30pm.

Police also seized two mobile phone and cash believed to be used for illicit transactions.

“Both suspects were suspected of providing top-up services and registration for online gambling,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) (C) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 which provides for a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM 50,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years.
