Antique theft — police arrest three suspects

MIRI: Three local men have been detained by the police on suspicion that they stole antique items from a number of houses in this district.

The men aged 35, 28 and 27 were picked up from a house at Jalan Piasau 2D in Piasau Utara around 11.10 pm on Sunday (May 16) by a team from Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Two of the suspects have long criminal records including burglary and drug-related offences.

During the raid code-named Ops Aidilfitri/Ops Bersepadu, the police recovered 15 antiques from the house.

Among the items were a copper gong, three bows, three mini copper canon, two Samurai swords, and an antique handgun.

All the suspects were taken to Miri Central Police station (CPS) for questioning.

Police believe that the men were involved in a series of housebreaking and robbery cases in the city.

Those who had lost similar things are urged to go to the police station to view and identify the goods.

The arrest of the men was confirmed by Miri Deputy Police chief Supt Sabri Zainol.
