KUCHING: The unity government, comprising various political parties, has been hailed as a stable administration.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that in the Unity Government, party members are working together towards a common objective of developing our country.

Anwar further commended the exceptional performance of the Sarawak state government, led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Under the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Sarawak has made remarkable progress in the fields of new technology and digital advancements, surpassing even the federal government,” said Anwar during his speech at the Unity Government National Convention 2023 held at the World Trade Centre (WTC) in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

Highlighting the importance of stability, Anwar said that a stable government requires open-minded leadership that is willing to listen and learn, rather than being arrogant.

“I want to emphasise that our current cabinet lineup has not been involved in any power abuse, such as granting oil contracts to family members or digital favours to in-laws. We cannot allow such practices to tarnish our country,” he added.

Turning his attention to the political landscape, Anwar acknowledged that despite Pakatan Harapan winning the most seats in the 15th general election (GE15), they fell short of the numbers needed to form the federal government. He credited the commitment of the President of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the support of his Member of Parliaments (MPs) for the change in history.

Anwar also recognised the significant role played by Abang Johari and GPS, as acknowledged by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong during critical times.
