KUCHING: Any term used must give advantages to Sarawak, especially in claiming the rights as stated in Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

The Pantai Damai assemblyman pointed out that the term change is still at the negotiation stage, but any decision made must benefit the state.

He said this when asked about Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s recent comment on how the Sarawak government will leave it to the legal experts to determine whether to use the term wilayah (region) or state.

“The use of the term wilayah is still in the negotiation stage, but the Sarawak government will definitely want any decisions made to side with Sarawak, particularly involving the MA63.

“In fact, any term used must give the upper hand to Sarawak in the claiming of rights which was eroded in the MA63,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman also expressed his hope on the introduction of the term wilayah for the future.

“I hope that it will give more benefits to Sarawak in future,” he said.
