MUKAH: Over 500 members of the Mukah District Civil Defence Force (APM) are always on standby at all times to ensure the wellbeing of the community is guaranteed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In conjunction with the APM’s 69th anniversary this year, Mukah District APM called on the community to remain disciplined and follow strict standard operating procedures in the Covid-19 fight.

Matu District APM officer Lt (PA) Jumaat Akasas said they appreciated the cooperation given by the community here.

“The community in Mukah District has seen our work, especially at quarantine centres, roadblocks and in the community throughout the pandemic.

“Indeed, our involvement is in line with the theme of this year’s celebration, ‘Perlindungan awam mampan menyelamatkan ekonomi negara’, which is a vision for the new norm in helping the community.”

He was met by Suara Sarawak after completing the symbolic hoisting of the flag using a boat on Batang Mukah in conjunction with the celebration on Tuesday (March 30).

Earlier, he said the national level do was held at the APM headquarters in Selangor on March 24 and broadcast live.

Meanwhile, Jumaat also called on the community to follow standard operating procedure guidelines as the state was still recording an increase in the number of cases daily.

“Avoid going to crowded places, especially social gatherings, which may cause an increase in the number of cases, especially feasts, weddings, tahlil and funerals.

“This is one of the factors that caused the increase in cases, so continue to comply with the government’s directives.”

The Mukah and Dalat districts have 120 members while Matu and Daro districts have 190 members each and can be deployed at any time.

According to him, a new unit would be established in Tanjung Manis and would operate under the Sarikei District despite being under the administration of Mukah District.
