KUCHING: Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel took part in a boat and scuba training aimed at preparing them for fast, precise and efficient rescue services during an emergency.

The two-day training exercise from July 23 to 24 was held in Kampung Pugu, Lundu.

Its state director Mohtar Samat said the training allow officers and personnel to have better understanding in handling boats while executing ‘fast rescue boat’ during disasters as well as search and rescue operations.

He pointed out that the department had been equipped with such assets, hence it should strive to enhance knowledge and skills of its personnel in operating such assets.

“If we were to look back at the previous flood disaster in Sarawak, in 2016 floods occurred in urban areas, in 2017, in the interior areas, in 2018 and 2019 it occurred in southern Sarawak.

“Therefore, during a flood disaster, we must be equipped with different skills in operating the boat to transfer the flood victims from the victim’s home to the evacuation centre,” he said.
