Likely to drop butterfly-style keyboard in upcoming 16-inch MacBook Pro

Late last week, a report by MacRumors was published suggesting that Apple plans to swap out the problematic butterfly keyboard mechanism in its laptops for a scissor mechanism, beginning with the 16-inch Macbook Pro rumoured to be coming in late 2019.
On Saturday, MacRumors obtained documents from highly reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stating that the rumoured 16-inch MacBook Pro expected to launch later this year will have a keyboard with a scissor mechanism.

In 2015 and 2016, Apple first began implementing the now-infamous butterfly keyboards into their laptop lineup, as they allowed for the model to be thinner.

Unfortunately, because this style of hardware minimises the space beneath the keys, they can easily be jammed by materials as minute as dust or crumbs.

For years, a plethora of MacBook Pro owners with this type of keyboard have been expressing their frustrations over the design, as their keys are prone to sticking, repeating letters, or becoming completely unresponsive. In fact, earlier this year the company publicly apologised for such problems.

Kuo states that as a result of this issue, “Apple will use the more durable scissor mechanism” for the upcoming 16-inch MacBook pro expected to debut in Q4 of this year.
