KUCHING: Forty-three Semester 1 Certificate in Architecture Technology (STS) students attended the Architectural Graphics Workshop 1.0 on Sept 29 and 30 at Kuching Community College and around the Kuching Waterfront.

According to STS Programme head Esuryati Kamarudin, among the objectives was to provide exposure on basic techniques of drawing and sketching, architectural figures and perspective drawing to all Semester 1 STS students.

“Besides that, the workshop is also to improve the skills, knowledge and ability of students; provide more detailed exposure on architectural performance drawings and exposure to learning outside the classroom,” she said in a statement on today.

Esuryati hoped that the students could apply the knowledge gained to teaching and learning, especially in the subject of Architectural Graphics, thus improving their skills as architecture technology students.

Guest speaker, Shamsul Johari Shaari, who is a lecturer at Mas Gading Community College, also called on students to use the experience gained during the two-day workshop to produce the best sketches.

“This is because the best architects are architects who have great sketches.

“Therefore, Community College students do not have to feel inferior about their sketches because this is just the beginning stage and students can continue their studies to a higher level at polytechnics and then universities.”

He also urged Kuching Community College students to develop Sarawak’s cultural image through interesting sketches and designs because “the state is rich in various different and unique cultures.”

At the programme, Shamsul also presented gifts to five students with the best sketches. Also present were deputy academic director Nurul Dafiqah Kamarulzaman and all STS lecturers.
