KUALA LUMPUR: The Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) chairman, Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul
Hamid regarded the late Arie Irawan Fauzi (pic) as one of association’s galaxy of young stars capable
of bringing about a huge impact to the professional golf in the world.

Ahmad Sarji who was saddened by the passing of 28-year-old golfer said, Arie had won three times on the PGM Tour.

“He was a dedicated golfer and his approach to professional golf is an inspiration to the younger professional golfers. May Allah bless his soul and that his family members have infinite patience on his passing,” he was quoted as saying in the statement issued by PGM Monday.

Arie was reported to have died of apparent natural causes in a hotel in China on Sunday.
He was playing in the Sanya Championship, the second event of the 2019 PGA Tour Series-China season, but he had missed the 36-hole cut.

Arie Irawan turned professional in April 2013 and in the following season, played on the Asian Development Tour and earned his tour card for the 2015 Asian Tour after a 6th-place finish on the Asian Development Tour’s Order of Merit.

In January 2015, he won his first Official World Golf Ranking points event at the PGM Sime Darby Harvard Championship on the Asian Development Tour and with it, became the highest ranked Malaysian golfer in the world rankings. – Bernama
