KUCHING: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) has mobilised more than 1,000 officers and personnel in preparation of the current Northeast Monsoon in Sarawak.

ATM Eastern Field Commander Lieutenant General Datuk Mohd Sofi Md Lepi said the personnel are ready and have been assigned to their respective areas of responsibility across Sarawak.

“We have established close cooperation with adjacent police stations on our readiness for immediate deployment if necessary.

“In each region of Sarawak, designated individuals have been assigned; based on our assessments, over 1,000 personnel are designated to provide assistance in the event of natural disasters, including the ongoing Northeast Monsoon,” he said.

He was being interviewed by reporters at the Week with Contributors 2023 programme organised by the Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) at Penrissen Camp here today.

Mohd Sofi said numerous hotspots have been identified, but he anticipated that the locations might change based on the monsoon conditions.
