SERIAN: The 11th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (11 RAMD) confiscated two air rifles last Sunday at the Tetangga Akrab oil palm plantation near the Sarawak-West Kalimantan border.

The First Infantry Division in a statement said that a scout group was carrying out Ops Benteng around 3.30pm at the said location and found the weapons.

It was told that the Balai Ringin Tactical Headquarters Placement chief had instructed a scout group to collect information and identify the whereabouts of illegal routes in the Balai Ringin sector.

“At around 3.15pm, the team came across two individuals believed to be locals acting suspiciously.

“After noticing the authorities’ presence, the individuals immediately sped off with their motorcycles towards the border.

“During their escape, they were seen dumping two air rifles at the edge of the oil palm plantation,” the division said.

Unfortunately, the individuals managed to escape from being arrested.

The seized weapons, estimated to be worth RM1,000, were handed over to Serian district police headquarters (IPD) for detailed inspection and further actions.

It is believed that the weapons were obtained illegally from a neighbouring country for hunting activities.
