SIBU: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) is not limited to safeguarding national security but can also play a role in internal security matters.

Brigadier General Abdul Jalal Zaidi Abdul Majid, commander of the 31st Malaysian Infantry Brigade, said as a result, his team is now ready to support the government in efforts to stop the theft of subsidised commodities in Sarawak.

“We are prepared to assist the government and public bodies with any task.

“It’s true that we have a responsibility to ensure national security but we may also support internal security.

“I can only say that I am awaiting more instructions on the subject from the authorities,” he told the media today during the 31st Malaysian Infantry Brigade’s 7th Anniversary Celebration at Junaco Camp nearby (Tuesday).

Recently, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the ATM, and enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs were directed to conduct raids from the level of packaging factories to the national boundary.
