KAPIT: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) are working closely together during the Covid-19 pandemic, said Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Datuk Seri Affendi Buang.

The army, he said, was committed to ensuring the well-being and health of the people.

Affendi added Malaysian Air Force (MAF) aircraft would continue to help the ministry transport medical aid and equipment.

“Meanwhile, the establishment of field hospitals in other locations is subjected to current needs and existing capabilities that can be provided by the Army Health Services Division,” he said during his brief official visit to the army field hospital at Dewan Masyarakat Melayu Kapit here on Sunday (May 16).

Affendi also urged the community to always cooperate and comply with the SOPs and instructions issued by the government to ensure that the transmission chain could be broken for the welfare of all.

To date, the field hospital, which operates round the clock, has received a total of seven non-Covid-19 patients for treatment. One of them has been allowed to leave and the current number of patients in the hospital is six.

Apart from that, the 40-bed hospital is also equipped with ward facilities, a pharmacy, x-ray and emergency treatment room.

The hospital also has an operating room and an intensive care unit (ICU).

These facilities enable Kapit Hospital to focus on Covid-19 treatment services in addition to having adequate beds for infected patients and more serious cases.

The army and MOH have stationed six officers and 69 members and staff at the field hospital. Lt Colonel (Dr) Saiful Anuar Ju@Ju Ahmad is the field hospital commander.

During Affendi’s brief working visit, he also presented Raya packages to the health personnel in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration.

Also present during the visit were Army Health Services director-general Lieutenant General Datuk (Dr) Zulkeffeli Mat Jusoh, Chief of Army General Tan Sri Datuk Zamrose Mohd Zain, Eastern Army Field Command Commander Lieutenant General Datuk Mardzuki Muhammad and First Infantry Division Commander Major General Datuk Dzulkafli Mustaffa.
