MIRI: Two men were arrested by police after threatening lives with machetes in separate cases.

In the first case, a 35-year-old man was caught after a police report was lodged.  He had threatened a security guard at a guard post in a plantation in Suai.

According to the security guard (complainant), on May 14 at 10 am, after the suspect threatened to kill him with a machete, he ran away.

“Thirty minutes later, when the complainant returned to his post, he found the suspect’s machete that was left behind at the guard post,” said MIRI OCPD Alexson Naga Chabu.

Miri’s Crime Investigation Department personnel detained the suspect and also seized the machete.

“In the second case, on May 17 at 9 am, a 25-year-old man went amok with a machete and threatened his mother in a longhouse.

“The cause of the suspect’s rage was unclear,” added Alexson.

The Crime Investigation Department arrested the suspect at 12.15 pm that day at Pasar Bekenu while he was walking around with a machete.
