KUCHING: Police here arrested a man who was driving under the influence of alcohol at a roadblock on Saturday night.

Kuching district deputy police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said the suspect was arrested during Ops Mabuk conducted at Jalan Simpang Tiga from 8.30pm until 12am.

The operation was aimed at preventing motorists who drive or ride under the influence of alcohol.

Merbin said two men, aged 35 and 40 years old, were brought to Kuching district police headquarters (IPD) for further actions as they were suspected of drink-driving.

Test results revealed that one of them was positive with an alcohol content of more than 126mg per 100ml of blood while the other was negative.

“The suspect will be charged under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a fine of not less than RM1,000 and not more than RM6,000, or imprisonment not exceeding 12 months upon conviction,” he said in a statement.
