ART set to put Sarawak on the global map

KUCHING: Sarawak is in position to have the first ever hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) in the whole world.

In saying this, Corporate Communications, SEED Programmes and Bumiputera Relations Director Alexis Barieng said physical works of the transportation system project is expected to commence by September this year.

“The first ride of ART will probably happen by the fourth quarter of 2025. However, we are still expecting to finish the whole project by 2027,” he said during the first Media Appreciation Night hosted by Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd at the Grand Margherita Hotel last night.

As it will be the first one in the whole world, he expressed that it will be truly something to be proud of.

“Not only in terms of the technical advancement but we believe that this will be beneficial for the Kuching folk in terms of improving our transport system here.

“Nevertheless, in two weeks’ time, I can assure you that there will be a big announcement from Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in regards to our project. We will keep you posted on that,” he added.

The special event was attended by over 60 media practitioners from various media organisations in Sarawak.
