SIBU: Community leaders at the grassroots level are urged to always be in line with the aspirations of the government.

These aspirations are achievable with the cooperation of all those at the grassroots level, said Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee.

Such cooperation is important in order to realise the government’ aspirations, he reiterated.

“The government is always emphasising the leadership at the grassroots level. For example the village security and development committee (JKKK), and non-governmental organisation (NGOs) are expected to play leading role,” he said, adding that more than 1,000 community leaders have been officially appointed in Sarawak by the government.

Dr Annuar said this at a dinner held in conjunction with meet-the-people session at Kingwood Hotel here, which Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at, last Wednesday night.

Also present were Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as well as State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion.

Dr Annuar, who is also Nangka assemblyman, also emphasised the importance of maintaining unity and political stability in Sarawak.

These are important for the state’s continuous progress, he stressed.

During the function, more than 200 community leaders received their certificates of appointment from the chief minister.
