SERIAN: St Theresa’s Parish Council is very proud to receive a 6-piece set of traditional gongs donated by Bukit Semuja Assemblyman, John Ilus, yesterday.

The donation was timely as the Parish Council needs the gongs to use at traditional functions and ceremonies.

St Theresa’s Parish Council covers the Catholic population in Serian and Simunjan.

In addition to the 39 Parish Council members and 25 lay organisations, Rector Rev. Paul Herry who is also President of the Council has created 10 zones in the Parish area to foster better relationship among the grass root parishioners and friends.

Rector Rev. Fr. Paul Herry has announced recently that in future, celebrations would not be centralised at the main church alone but to be celebrated in different zones.

The examples are the recent Pre-Gawai celebration held at Kampung Paon Gahat on 27 May, the Corpus Christi (Holy Body) celebration at Kampung Sorak Mawang/ Sunpung on 18 June and the Gawai closing celebration at Kampung Bedega on 24 June.

However, the celebration of St Theresa’s Feast, the only fund-raising project of the Council in early October, will be celebrated at the main church.

The Parish is also planning to develop Bung Mako, the pilgrimage place of the Parish.

As such, Rector Rev. Fr. Paul Herry and Chairman of the Parish Council, Dennis Sung are appealing to generous donors and well wishers for their support, and donations to ensure that the plan materializes soon for the benefit of the church members.

The next monthly pilgrimages to Bung Mako will be on 1 July, 19 August and 16 September. For more information contact the church office for further details on the pilgrimage.
