Assemblyman secures Sarikei parliamentary seat in fruitful second attempt

SARIKEI: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii has secured the seat of Sarikei for the coalition with a 3,697 vote majority.

Huang, 53, garnered 20,080 votes defeating his only rival Roderick Wong Siew Leadfrom Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Roderick, 32, only obtained 16,383 votes.

Commenting on the victory, Huang said it was the happiest moment throughout his political endeavour.

“We admit that we faced great competition but, as a result of hard work, we managed to regain this seat. I would like to thank all the voters.

“The same is the case with the party machinery that worked tirelessly throughout the last campaign.

“Not forgetting the utmost appreciation to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who trusted me to run for this seat,” he told the media here.

He also expressed his commitment to work hard to defend the people following his struggle and the slogan of putting Sarawak first.

In GE14, Andrew Wong Ling Biu (DAP) who is also Roderick’s father won with 16,327 votes against Huang Tiong Sii from the Barisan Nasional party who got 13,757 votes.

While in GE13, Andrew got 14,263 votes while BN candidate Ding Kuong Hing got 13,758 votes thus winning with a majority of 505 votes.
