LONG BEDIAN: Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau supported by various government agencies, recently conducted an official site visit to the Long Bedian Hybrid Station to discuss the proposed Proof of Concept (POC) solar and hydrogen project for the township of Long Bedian.

“The proposed POC follows the successful implementation of the solar and hydrogen pilot project at the Long Loyang Clinic in Ulu Tinjar, led by H2 Energy. The project has been operational since its commissioning in December 2021, providing uninterrupted power.

“This project was initiated due to the challenges faced by rural clinics in accessing diesel patrol for their generators, leaving them with limited electricity hours daily,” he said in a press statement issued today.

The H2E1 system, officially launched by Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi  in August 2022, has proven that off-grid rural clinics’ critical energy needs can be met effectively.

The success has led to the proposal for a large-scale green hydrogen system in the sub-district of Long Bedian, which aims to provide around-the-clock service power to off-grid facilities in Sarawak, including villages, logging camps, and palm oil estates.

“At the briefing held at the Long Bedian Power Station, a spokesperson confirmed that the H2E modular design can produce hydrogen fuel via electrolysis using water and solar energy.

“This makes it suitable for locations inaccessible to the state’s electricity grid, while also offering long-term cost savings. The system is easy to operate, compact, modular, robust, reliable, and eco-friendly, providing sustainable energy,” Dennis added.

The proposed POC is the first of its kind in Malaysia and aligns with the Sarawak government’s focus on promoting green hydrogen. It also reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of rural communities.
