KUCHING: A total of 62 farmers in the Pantai Damai state constituency received aid in the form of agricultural inputs from the Sarawak Agriculture Department.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, in revealing this, said the recipients comprise traditional and conventional farmers who carry out full time agricultural activities.
He said the agricultural inputs received consisted of fertilisers, pesticide sprayers, lawn mowers, wheelbarrows and storage baskets.
“We have listed farmers who are engaged in full-time agricultural activities. This assistance is very much needed by farmers, especially during the movement control order,” he said when met after presenting the assistance at the Pantai Damai Agricultural Input Presentation Programme today (July 15).
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply), added that the aid will help farmers increase their own productivity.
“This is a good effort because we encourage more people to engage in agricultural activities,” he said.
The Pantai Damai assemblyman said apart from helping farmers, the Agriculture department also provided support programmes for the group.
He said this includes advisory services and short-term courses in fertigation and hydroponics.
“After participating in the agriculture course, we can see many people carrying out agricultural activities at home such as growing vegetables and fruits,” he said.
Also present were Kuching District Agriculture Superintendent Anthony Peter Tula, Sarawak Assistant Agriculture Officer Norsiha Gani and Pasir Pandak Village Nazeri Idi.
