SIBU: Assistant Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee began his tenure as chairman of University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) today.

He was appointed by the Sarawak government to the position last December but due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Nangka assemblyman had to put on hold his duties.

On Tuesday, he had a meeting with UCTS staff as well as being briefed on the UCTS administration.

Meanwhile, UCTS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said the institution was honoured to have Dr Annuar.

“As a state-owned institution of higher learning, the courses here are not only focused on academic programmes but also technical skills.

“Upon graduation, the qualifications of our graduates are recognised by local and international industries.”

Later, Dr Annuar said the marketability rate of UCTS graduates had reached 99.1 percent, the highest in the country.

He further said it was one of the reasons the state government created UCTS, to meet the needs of the workforce in Sarawak.

To further elevate the role of UCTS, Dr Annuar said in the future, the institution planned to add more programmes in the form of affiliates or cooperation.

He said he was determined to make UCTS as one of the leading universities in the state as well as the choice of many when it comes to furthering their studies.

Dr Annuar also thanked the state government for the trust given.

“This is a heavy responsibility but with the support of all, together we can advance UCTS.”
