KUCHING: The Sarawak government is committed to instilling the community with the qualities of integrity, especially among civil servants.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya  said continuous efforts would be undertaken and enhanced to ensure this.

“From 2018 to 2020, 84,757 people participated in various programmes organised by the State Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNION) of which 41,842 attended during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This shows the high level of commitment and adaptation of the state government in carrying out its duties, even in different circumstances, to cultivate awareness among civil servants on the importance of accountability, honesty, transparency and trust during and outside working hours.”

He said this during the launch of the Integrity and Innovation Day, and Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) 2022 Assembly here on Wednesday.

He added that the efforts would help further improve civil servants’ knowledge on good governance, integrity and anti-corruption practices.

“In fact, the Sarawak government has provided an open platform for the public to provide constructive views on the quality of state public services delivery.”

Separately, STIDC general manager Datuk Hashim Bojet stated that STIDC was committed to implementing programmes that inculcate the qualities of integrity among its employees.

“In the new norm, the ways of working require changes and creativity by including a touch of innovation through digital transformation that can add value to STIDC’s main services such as licensing.

“With the change in working from home, values of integrity played important part in staff to comply with standard operating procedures provided as a guide to ensure quality services. This is in support of the vision and mission to drive the growth of the timber industry.”

He added that STIDC had documented the Organisational Anti-Corruption Plan and Corruption Risk Management policies to curb corruption.

“In addition to the implementation of informant policy and ‘Gift Policy’, we will also be implementing the Anti-Corruption Management System by forming an anti-corruption committee. This is to provide a platform that will enable specific issues related to integrity and corruption to be promptly addressed.”
