PADAWAN: A special assistance of RM500 to tourist guides as well as taxi, bus and e-hailing drivers recently announced by the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will ease their burden, said Assistant Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

He said that such assistance was important as the implementation of movement control order (MCO) had an impact on the number of customers who used their services.

“Although the amount for this special assistance is not big, at least it will ease their burden.

“This is a good action taken by the prime minister who understands the situation faced by these drivers,” he told reporters after inspecting repair works at Nona Budis’ house in Kampung Garung here.

The Mambong assemblyman hoped that the prime minister’s announcement would send a strong message to the people to join forces in the fight against Covid-19.

He explained that the public’s cooperation was important in ensuring the containment of the pandemic.

“In the first wave, it was to control the spread of this pandemic. However, we are now facing the third wave and we must tackle this crisis as soon as possible.

“But in doing so, many businesses are affected. The prime minister’s recent aid package is much welcomed,” he said.
