KUCHING: The Kuching Teochew Association wants to preserve and maintain the Teochew dialect as an identity of the tribe’s culture and customs.

Its cultural committee successfully conducted the first online Teochew dialect training course on yesterday (June 18), which was well-received by the community.

The association’s president Chew Boon Seng said the training course aimed at promoting the usage of Teochew dialect among members.

“This training is also a way to maintain our communication with our ancestral town and to preserve our culture and customs,” he said when presenting certificates to the participants.

The online class was conducted by two teachers from China.
