KUCHING: The Sarawak Federation of Chinese Women Association’s ‘Bright Pearl Shines on Cat City’ traditional cheongsam competition and gala dinner has been postponed to the second half of the year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Association president, Lau Chiew Eng, said the event was originally scheduled for the International Women’s Day on March 8.

She said the rescheduled event will be held together with the association’s 38th anniversary celebration and official website introduction ceremony.

“This competition and dinner is jointly organised by the Sarawak Tung Yang Clan Association and Hopo Association Sarawak Women’s Section,” she said today.

She pointed out that since the pandemic would not be over anytime soon, the organisers during their meeting last year unanimously agreed for the event to be postponed due to safety concerns.

“The association held a multi-ethnic traditional costume competition during International Women’s Day last year.

“In addition to promoting Chinese culture, it also encouraged exchanges with other ethnic groups who presented their traditional costumes and cultures, also taking this opportunity to enhance the inter-ethnic relationship,” said Lau.
