KUALA LUMPUR: Astro Awani has assured police of its full cooperation in their investigation into a case of alleged controversial news delivery on the ‘AWANI 745’ news programme recently.

Its editor-in-chief Ashwad Ismail said the 24-hour news and current affairs channel is of the view that a national policing institution which guarantees the harmony, safety and well-being of the public must always be respected and preserved.

“Astro Awani remains committed to strengthening the existing close cooperation between the community and police through ethical, balanced and quality reporting,” he said in a statement today.

He was responding to Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani’s statement yesterday that police had opened an investigation paper into the case of a newsreader who had allegedly made slanderous remarks on television.

Acryl was quoted by a news daily as saying that the remarks could cause public hatred towards the authorities, including the police. – Bernama
