SIBU: Positive Covid-19 patients classified as level 1 and 2 but do not experience any symptoms will be placed at the Covid Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC).

According to Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Dr Annuar Rapaee, the PKRC in Sibu was opened at several locations including Kemuyang Youth Camp, Methodist Centennial, Laila Taib College, Malaysian Health Training Institute Hostel and trainee doctors hostel.

“So far among the PKRCs in Sibu that have been used are in Kemuyang, Methodist and part of Laila Taib College.

“The number of beds available now exceeds 1,000 beds. This is to clarify the question of where Covid-19 patients are housed in Sibu,” he said, today (Jan 30).

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technology Research, said the facility is also provided at PKRC Kanowit and Sarikei districts.

Dr Annuar, also the coordinator of the Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (JPBBS), explained that for those who enter Sibu by air transport, several hotels in Sibu are available for them to undergo quarantine and stressed that there is no more quarantine in the home.

The Nangka assemblyman said that now many staff from outside Sibu district, especially from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) have been called to work in this district.

“Therefore, a hotel is also available for the health officers to stay throughout their assignment,” he said.

“We also understand that some of the close contacts do not have a suitable place to be quarantined, so they are also provided with hotel rooms until their Covid-19 screening results are found to be negative,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Dr Annuar revealed today in Kanowit, the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) had helped to set up additional of beds in PKRC Kanowit.
