TEHRAN: At least four people were killed after two gunmen attacked the Shah Cheragh Shrine in Shiraz, German news agency (dpa) quoted Iranian media reports on Sunday.

Another seven people were wounded in the attack, according to the Iranian Students’ News Agency.

Two workers at the shrine and two pilgrims are among those killed in the attack.

The Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In October 2022, a similar attack on the shrine killed 13 people and wounded more than 20 others.

Following Sunday’s attack, the Iranian security forces closed all gates to the shrine and cordoned off the area.

Initial reports suggested that two terrorists were involved in the attack, and one of the attackers has been arrested by security forces. – BERNAMA-dpa
