KUCHING: The city police in collaboration with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SESCO), cut off power supply to three business premises and a house suspected of operating online gambling centres.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the joint operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and SESCO from 9 am to 3 pm last Wednesday.

“This enforcement action was conducted in accordance with the authority granted under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 (Act 289).

“Under the provisions of this section, any premises that has had its power supply disconnected, cannot have it restored without written permission from the district police chief,” he said.

He emphasised that the purpose of implementing this law was to combat the surge in gambling activities, particularly in Kuching.
