KUCHING: State authorities are rushing to get the new Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) at Dewan Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) in Petra Jaya ready for the weekend.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the centre would be the third PKRC set up within one week in view of the surge of Covid-19 cases in Kuching and Samarahan.
“The Public Works Department, Resident’s Office and the State Health Department (JKNS) are rushing to set up the next Sarawak General Hospital PKRC at Dewan CIDB.
“Truly our Sarawak spirit of solidarity and united war effort – doesn’t matter (they are) federal or state agencies, but the focus and priority is to save Sarawakian lives. No time for politicking.
“We are extremely grateful to our medical frontliners as they are being stretched to near maximum in their line of duty but there is a breaking point before system collapses,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (June 3).
At the same time, Dr Sim said the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching would serve as the next mass vaccination centre for Kuching.
“It will be in operation on June 7 for the AstraZeneca vaccine opt-in voluntary programme under the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) Kuala Lumpur.”
Dr Sim also welcomed medical officers from Peninsular Malaysia, adding that the state government would continue to work closely with CITF, Protect Health Corporation and JKNS to save Sarawakian lives.
Earlier, the Local Government and Housing Minister said a shipment of Sinovac vaccine had arrived in Kuching under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
“Was made to understand that the Health Ministry will deliver substantial amount of vaccines to Sarawak next few days as part of their weekly commitment for June and July.”
