MIRI: A total 43 new auxiliary firefighter recruits will be deployed to 10 fire stations across the state, including the Lutong fire station which will commence operations on Oct 10 this year.

Sarawak Bomba director Datu Khirudin Drahman said that these recruits would be placed at the Kidurong, Lopeng, Lawas, Asajaya, Saratok, Mukah, Belaga, Tanjong Manis and Lutong fire stations.

All the recruits completed their 10-day training course today at the Lopeng fire station here.

Khirudin said the role of auxiliary firefighters was important in terms of helping to mitigate the shortage of firefighters especially in rural areas.

“As the largest state in the country and based on current strength, the department will not be able to provide the best service to the people but with these auxiliary firemen, we will be able to reach far-flung areas and provide better services to the communities,” he said.

Also present at the event was Miri Zone 6 acting chief Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee.
