KPDNHEP officers check on supply of eggs at a supermarket in Mukah.

MUKAH: Don’t panic. Chicken egg supply here is enough for everyone.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) branch here gave this piece of advice on Tuesday (Feb 9).

Branch chief Salihin Den advised consumers not to go into panic buying as the supply of eggs will always be available in Mukah.

“This assurance is from our key suppliers here, thus we should not be swayed by issues that are occurring elsewhere.

“It is important to know that panic buying can disrupt the supply of eggs in the market. We are often out in the field to ensure that basic necessities are also sufficient,” he said.

Salihin said several supermarkets around the Mukah market had received fresh supplies of eggs that arrived today.

“A a total of 350 sets of eggs were received at 101 Supermarket Mukah, 100 sets of eggs were received from suppliers at Glory Mukah Supermarket, 150 sets of eggs at Everwin Mukah Supermarket and 500 sets of eggs at Gafu Mukah Supermarket.

“Meanwhile, for Medan Mukah Supermarket, the supply of eggs (200 trays) will arrive by tomorrow (Feb 9),” he said.

At the same time, he said the ministry had no objection should if supermarkets set a limit on the number of trays of eggs that an individual could purchase.

“The purpose of limiting sales is to give the public equal opportunity to get adequate supply of eggs.

“However, we will take firm action if they have set conditions for the purchase, such as compelling consumers to make a purchase of RM100 worth of items to be eligible to buy eggs,” she said.

Supply items such as chicken eggs and poultry were gazetted as controlled items from Feb 5 to June 5 as stipulated in the Maximum Price Scheme for Chicken and Chicken Eggs (SHMATA).
