KUCHING: Political extremism must be discarded to maintain the state’s stability, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan.

He said extremism will hinder development and progress of the community.

“Therefore, do not be influenced by ideology that is sometimes too extreme because it can cause political instability.

“For us in this state, we are grateful that our people still practise unity and help one another.

“This helps a lot in maintaining peace. Our politics are stable and not chaotic because of the unity practised by the community,” he added.

Awang Tengah said this in his speech during the Iftar Jamaie Ramadan JATI 1444H at Cafe Parimpan here yesterday (Apr 16).

Adding on, he said that despite being a multiracial community, Sarawakians can still live in harmony.

“This peace needs to be maintained because we know that one single race cannot govern alone unless we all work together.
