SADONG JAYA: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan welcomed the allocation of RM1.01 billion from the Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) for the rural development in Sarawak.

He recalled that during the previous Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government’s tenure, the funds allocated for the state were not much compared to those allocated by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government at present.

“Various development projects that had been approved before PH took over, were cancelled.

“The Rambungan Bridge was supposed to be funded by the federal government but during the PH’s tenure, it was ‘kosong’ (nothing). The same goes for the Igan Bridge.

“Similarly with village roads and rural roads, many were not implemented. Water supply and electricity also suffered the same fate,” he told a press conference after visiting the site of the Sadong Jaya/Sungai Buluh Road Section 1 project at four-way intersection at Kampung Iboi here today.

Following this, Awang Tengah said the state government had taken the initiative to helm the responsibility and allocated RM2.3 billion to supply electricity to rural areas.

He added that the contractors also could not continue with the projects while under PH’s rule due to insufficient allocation.

The deputy chief minister hoped that the government of the day (PN) could increase the amount of allocation in order to meet the needs of the state, especially for the rural population.
