Awang Tengah tests negative

KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has tested negative for Covid-19, said his aide.

Press officer attached to Awang Tengah, Saiful Bahari, said the deputy chief minister was tested for the virus last Tuesday along with Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Woman, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

“The test results for Datuk Amar (Awang Tengah) and Datuk Seri Fatimah (were) negative. The results were out yesterday (April 7),” he said.

He was disputing an article by online portal MalaysiaKini who reported the pair to be Covid-19 positive.

In the report, MalaysiaKini reported that Awang Tengah and Fatimah were among the ministers to tested positive for the virus along with Transport Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

Dr Jerip confirmed last week that he was undergoing treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for Covid-19 after being infected by his worker, who is linked to the Good News Fellowship Conference Church cluster.

Saiful said Awang Tengah, who heads the food sub-committee of the State Disaster Management Committee, has been coordinating his operations while undergoing home quarantine which is set to end tomorrow (April 10).

Last week, Awang Tengah and Fatimah were reported to have been ordered to undergo quarantine after they attended a food sub-committee meeting where one of the members tested positive for Covid-19.
